Walk down to Eighth Avenue, turning left then left again onto West 21st Street. Stop outside No. 305 looking for a street-level representation of the man in the moon with a rocket in his eye. Odd? It is certainly unique. It is a homage to George Mélies’ 1902 film La Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon). In the earliest days of cinema, this ground-breaking sci-fi film was only eight minutes long but became famous. Documentary filmmakers who worked in this building commissioned the design in 1997.
